1st Prize Photography for the Competition for the Arts: Fast Forward – The Future of Work in a Green Economy

I am delighted to announce that I have been awarded 1st Prize Photography by the ILO – International Labour Organization for the Competition of the Arts: Fast Forward – The Future of Work in a Green Economy.

My winning entry: ‘Our responsibility begins with the power to imagine’

The exhibition is currently running at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe in Harare until January 2020.

My work and contribution for this exhibition ‘Our responsibility begins with the power to imagine’ invites the viewer to look through a window into an imagination of a changing world of work. A new understanding of work in terms of a means to create space for creativity and self-fulfillment, where every human being can find work that is aligned with their own values, desires, dreams, hopes and skills. Where ‘smart consumption’ replaces the current dominance of critical and non-sustainable consumer behavior. Where we care and claim responsibilty for the limited resources and where we care and claim fair, healty, properly remunerated working conditions for ourselves and our fellow people.

Art is nothing without imagination. The role of the arts in a green economy can be significant when artists deal with the real issues that mirror the corner pillars necessary for the transition into a sustainable, fair and equal future empowering marginalised groups – (Martina Gruber, Harare October 2019)
